André Vésale (or Vésale, Vesalius, Andreas Vesalius) was born on the 31st December 1514, in Brussels, and died in 1564 on the île de Zante. He was an anatomist and Belgian doctor consided by numerous scientific historians to be the greatest anatomist of the Renaissance period, even the greatest in the history of medicine. His works would go on continue to be relevant in the modern day, putting an end to the dogma of Galenism which hindered the scientific method for more than a thousand years in Europe and in Islamic countries.
