Death of Bayard. Pierre Terrail, Lord of Bayard, (Château de Bayard, Pontcharra (Isère) 1476 - Rovasenda (Val Sesia, jadis Milanais, today Piémont, province of Verceil or Vercelli, Italy) 1524), better known under the name of Bayard or of the Knight Bayard, was a Dauphiné who notably fought as a Knight during the wars of Italy (15th - 16th Century). His life story has been recounted by one of his comrade-in-arms, Jacques de Mailles (in "the Very Joyful and Pleasant Story of the Kind Lord Bayart, the Good Knight Without Fear or Reproach.") He is the historical figure which led to the creation of the image of the Knight who is "brave" and "without reproach" and represented the value system of the French chivalry during the latter stages of the Middle Ages. 19th Century engraving.
