Elizabeth Fry, British prison and social reformer, c1798-1800 (1956). Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845) was a Quaker minister and prison reformer, who was also famous for introducing more humane conditions for the voyage of convicts to New South Wales and alleviating the condition of vagrants in London and Brighton. She instituted the Order of Nursing Sisters. A print from People, a volume about the origin and early history of many things, common and less common, essential and inessential, by Readers Union, the Grosvenor Press, London, 1956.
