On 27 May 1919, in Paris, the President of the Italian Council, Vittorio Emanuele Orlando, the British Prime Minister David Lloyd George, the President of the French Council, Georges Clemenceau, and the American President Thomas Woodrow Wilson (from left to right), representatives of the four allied and victorious nations, gathered in the library of the latter's Parisian residence to hold a meeting. The Council of Four will hold 145 working sessions, between 24 March 1919 and 28 June 1919, within the framework of the Peace Conference, opened by the Council of Ten on 13 January 1919 for the preparation of the Treaty of Versailles.
