Daniel Bernoulli (1700-1782), Swiss doctor, physicist and mathematician. With his friend Leonhard Euler, he shared ten annual prizes from the Paris Academy of Sciences. His interest in tidal mechanism and the elasticity theory lead him to develop mathematical tools such as differential equations and series. He also studied vibrating cords.
