Title
Desiderius Erasmus.
Caption
Desiderius Erasmus (Desiderius Erasmus Roterdamus, 1469-1536). Dutch humanist and theologian. He often critiqued the attitude of the Pope and the Clergy, which he saw as untrue to the evangelical doctrine. Though he sought to avoid any schism within the Church, he participated in the birth of protestantism by opposing the translation of the Greek bible to the Latin Vulgate, which he judged as inexact.
