Viscount Eugène-Melchior de Vogüé (1848-1910). French diplomat and man of letters, he traveled often and was elected to the French Academy in 1888. Regular contributor to the Journal des Deux Mondes and the Revue des Débats, he worked to strengthen the relationship between Pope Léon XIII and the Third Republic.
