Henry II of France (1519-1559). Second son of François I and Claude de France, recognized as duke of Brittany in 1536, crowned in Reims in 1547. Married Catherine de' Medici in 1533. Died following wounds he had received during a tournament. His reign saw the defeat of Charles Quint, whom his father had fought against without success. Precursive era to the religious wars.
