Title
Pilgrims being treated to the hospitality of Lebonese monks.
Caption
Before departing for the Holy Land, a pilgrim had to obtain the authorization of those close to him, as well as of his bishop, who carried out a preliminary study into his past. But once his request was accepted, he would enjoy all of the privileges that accompanied this status, including hospitality, defense, medical care, exemption from toll payments, and a large reduction in travel costs during the entirety of his trip. The mistreatment of a pilgrim was considered a felony.
