Victor Emmanuel III (1869-1947), crowned King of Italy in 1900. His reign is remarked for his neutrality during the First World War, over the course of which he eventually joined the Allies. He was witness to the conquests in Oriental Africa (Eritrea, Ethiopia...), to the dictatorship of Mussolini and to the alliance with Germany during the Second World War. In May 1946, he abdicated his throne to his son Humbert II.
