Caption
Mary I of Scotland, or Marie Stuart, or Mairi in Scottish Gaelic (1542-1587). Crowned Queen of Scotland in 1542, Queen of France (1559-1560) after her marriage to François II, she was the daughter of Jacques V of Scotland and Marie de Guise. She was raised in the court of Henry II of France, to escape Henry VIII of England. She had to abdicate her throne of Scotland after three failed marriages and an abortion in 1567. She was then detained and assigned a residence in England by Elisabeth, before being executed for treason in 1587.
