Alexandre Millerand (1859-1943). French statesman. In 1892, he got labor leglisation approved that reduced work hours, particularly those of women and children. Minister of War (1912-1915), President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was elected President of the Republic in 1920, after the resignation of Paul Deschanel. The victory of the Cartel des Gauches in 1924 pushed him to resign.
