Philip II Augustus (1165-1223). Crowned King of France in 1179. Was dedicated to reinstoring royal power and putting an end to the feudal era. Left for the Third Crusade with Richard I of England (the Lion-Heart) in 1190. In 1214, with the victory at the Battle of Bouvine, he enlarged royal territory. In 1218, he failed to put an end to the Albigensian heresy and to conquer the South of France.
