Title
House of the Tragic Poet, Pompeii.
Caption
House of the Tragic Poet, also called the Homeric House or the Iliadic House, in Pompeii. Given this name because of a mosaïc found inside representing a Master of Theater. In the atrium, there are two mosaïcs depicting scenes from the Illiad. Founded in the 6th century B.C., Pompeii was completely buried, along with Herculaneum and Stabiae, during an eruption of Mount Vesuvius, on August 24 79.
