Richard I of England, known as Lion-Heart (1157-1199). From 1189 to 1199, he was: King of England, duke of Normandy, duke of Aquitaine, count of Maine and count of Anjou. Son of Henry II of England and Eleanore of Aquitaine, he was raised in France. He used all of his resources to participate in the Third Crusade and to defend his French territories against Philip Augustus; he died in combat. He was a famous poet and writer in his era.
