Charles Wheatstone (1802-1875). British inventor: the English concertina, one of the first microphones, the Playfair cipher (an encryption technique), the Wheatstone Bridge (electricity), the two mirrored stereoscope. He was the recipient of the Royal Medal in 1840 and 1843, and of the Copley Medal in 1868. In 1836, he installed the first wired telegraphic connection (2km), in Northern London.
