Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine (1790-1869) was a French poet, writer, historian and politician. An opposer of Louis Philippe’s regime, he was involved in the revolution of 1848 and became a member of the provisional government in the capacity of Minister of foreign affairs. He also led efforts towards the abolition of slavery.
