Auguste Nélaton.

Auguste Nélaton (1807-1873) was a French doctor and surgeon. He wrote a recognised thesis on the effects of tuberculosis on the bones. He was then named professor at the Hôpital St-Louis in Paris, specialising in breast tumours. In 1867 he became personal surgeon to Napoleon III, and in 1868 he was named Imperial Senator. Nélaton also worked in plastic surgery. He invented a probe (Nélaton's probe) and, lastly, gave his name to the ‘Nelaton manoeuvre’, which aims to reduce jaw dislocation.
