Russian custom - Wedding - 1860: pre-wedding ceremony. Godfather and godmother bless future marriages. The godfather presents to them the image of Christ or the Virgin, symbol of religious consecration. The godmother holds bread and salt above the head of the future bride, as a sign of happiness and abundance. Engraving in “” Le Monde Illustré”” n°190 of 1 December 1860.
