VIEW OF THE TOWN AND HARBOUR OF BALAKLAVA: The Battles round Balaclava were caused by the attempt of General Liprandia to cut the Allies off from their base at the harbour of Balaclave, and at the same time to block the road to Sebastopol. The first attack began on October 25th, and the Charges of the Light and Heavy Brigades, and the Battle of Inkermann, all rose out of this movement.
