- Left: Order of the Iron Crown Replacement medal given to the non-commissioned officers, instead of the french insignias.
- Middle: Order of the Iron Crown. Knight’s insignia, after 1816.
- Right: Order of the Iron Crown. 1st class knight’s insignia, replacement model. Finely chiselled gold.

L'Ordre de la Couronne de Fer, fut institué en 1805, et modifié en 1815.
Connaissant la popularité de l’ordre, l’Empereur François d’Autriche le conserva mais fit retirer tout symbole napoléonien des insignes, l’Aigle impériale française étant remplacée par l’Aigle bicéphale. Le nombre de récipiendaires était plus réduit que sous l’Empire.
Seuls les officiers purent obtenir après la chute de l’Empire un insigne de remplacement. Pour les autres titulaires, non officiers, l’empereur François Ier créa la "Médaille pour le Courage".
