VIETNAM - BATAILLE DE DIEN BIEN PHU
Caption
Vietnam. Indochina. Dien Bien Phu. Capture of the entrenched camp of the French expeditionary force, on May 7, 1954, by the Viet-Minh forces of General Giap. Launched on March 13, the Vietnamese attack mobilized divisions 304, 320, 308, 312, 315, 316 and 325 of the Viet-Minh battle corps. Surrounded in the basin, the French troops resisted the enemy offensive for fifty-seven days. At the beginning of April, there were only 6,300 able-bodied fighters left among the colonial troops. In less than two months, the battle cost the lives of more than 3,000 French soldiers and around 20,000 Vietnamese. The museum presents numerous objects and weapons taken from the French and photos of the battles taken on both sides.
