Faujas de Saint-Fond describes the aerostatic experiment carried out on 19th September 1783 in Versailles by Etienne Montgolfier, in the presence of the King and Queen and the Royal Family. The dutchess of Polignac managed to include a verbal account of the first flight by man at the end of the volume, which took place on 21st November from the park in château de la Muette where she lived.
