The model represents Charles and Robert's takeoff to the Tuileries on 1st December 1783. In the presence of a crowd of around 400 000 people, Charles and Robert rose above the jardins des Tuileries at forty minutes past one. The craft rose majestically in the midst of the crowd's applause. The balloon surpassed the height of Monceau, crossing the Seine between Saint-Ouen and Asnières, flying over Sannois, Taverny l’Ile-Adam, then Nesle where it begqn it's descent. The balloon landed near the hunting lodge of Mr Farrer, an English gentleman.
