Even entrerprising spirits got invloved in aerostatic experiments. Testu-Brissy carried out the first night flight on 18th June 1786. After being in the air for nearly 8 hours in the vicinity of Ecouen, he entered a storm. When he was at a height of six hundred and seventy eight "toises," the temperature fell below zero and the gondola was covered in ice, snow and hailstones. The craft didn't land until four o'clock in the morning in Campremy, Picardie. He reported his observations on atmospheric electricity.
