After the first aerostatic experiments of 1983, the popular interest and fascination were such that the experiments grew in number with each town attracting his experiment. Frédéric Antoine de Grassi, doctor and the perfume seller Périer attempted to board the "Le Bordelais" balloon on 3rd May 1784 in Bordeaux.
