On Monday 1st December at twenty minutes to two, Charles and Robert's balloon rose majestically into the sky in the jardins des Thuilleries. The same day at a quarter to four, the machine landed between the villages of Nesle and Hédouville in the Prairie de Nesle, 9 leagues north west of Paris near the town of Beaumont sur l'Oise.
This German etching transposes the experiment in the Cour d'Honneur of the Château de Versailles.
