Parisians flocked to the Tuileries to witness the aerostatic experiment. Many tried to help their companions over the wall of the enclosure, however they were met by guards who pushed them back. Amongst the gathering of gentlemen, a priest observed the aerostat from a distance. With the women's skirts partially blocking his viewpoint, the priest adjusted his view towards the physicists. The rest of the crowd began to hoist themselves over the wall to get a better view of the spectacle.
