Title
Shia'a procession on the tenth of Muharram, Karachi
Caption
Shiite Muslims pay great reverence to the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Imam Husain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, murdered in AD 680 in Karbela (present-day Iraq). In Karachi, a huge procession takes place on the tenth day of Muharram, when a bloodstained horse is led through the streets, followed by bare-chested men slashing themselves with razors. Similar processions take place in Teheran, Beirut and Bahrain.
