Caption
Temple of Horus, Edfu, Egypt.
Second largest in Egypt. Statue of Horus here represented as a hawk. The temple was built between 237 and 57 BC during the Ptolemaic period and is believed to be on the site of the fight between Horus and his Uncle Seth for control of the world. It was completely buried in sand until the 1860s when it was excavated by Mariette.
