Bath Abbey, Somerset, c1870. Bath Abbey's founder, Bishop Oliver King, reputedly had a dream himself featuring Jacob's Ladder that inspired him to build the Abbey on the site of the earlier Norman Cathedral. The project was begun in 1499, making Bath Abbey the latest of England's great medieval churches.
