Burundi, Bujumbura Rural, Kebezi military base, March 2006, Lyzelle van Hagen (21) from Pretoria patrols the base as part of the South African Defense Force. The troops of the South African Defence Force make up the largest contigent of the peacekeeping forces of ONUB (United Nations Operations Burundi). 50% of the South African peacekeeping contingent in Burundi consist of women. Rifle man van Hagen enjoys the military life and says that back home in South Africa she was use to eveyone around her having houses and food, but here it is different. Here she will grow up.
