The troops of the South African Defence Force make up the largest contigent of the peacekeeping forces of ONUB (United Nations Operations Burundi). Approximately thirty families have built their houses around the miltary base for protection against attacks and human rights violations in the area allegedly committed by the remaining rebel group, FNL (Forces national le liberation).
