Dr Jonathan Victor Larsen MBchB (UCT) F.R.C.O.G. returns a ultra sound machine to a ward. Times have changed in rural hospitals. Where once nurses would ensure equipment was available when doctors needed it, the professionalisation of nursing staff has meant doctors need to do such work themselves. I spent two days in the final week of my father\\'s 43 years in rural medicine documenting his work.
