Worker cleans car on the sales floor. These second hand vehicles are marketed as "pre-owned". "Development" has come to Pietermaritzburg. Once a polo field and a bird sanctuary, this area of town has become an upmarket development for car traders. The bulk of car sales companies have moved in to the area. Across the N2 highway the old Corobrick brick factory site has been turned in to the Liberty Midlands Mall, the largest Mall in the province outside of Durban. With South Africa's economy booming, even a small city like Pietermaritzburg is feeling the effects of economic "progress" and expensive German cars are one of the signs of globalisation reaching the far corners of the earth
