Niger is the second poorest country in the world. Nearly two-thirds of the population does not have sufficient income for their basic needs such as food, clean water, shelter and clothing. Average life expectancy is 46 years and over 80% of the population is illiterate. Women have little access to information and education. At least 90% of women are illiterate in Niger.
