Seen in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape of South Africa on Monday November 8, 2004 is the clock tower of the main administration block of Rhodes University which was based on a design by Sir Herbert Baker and Francis Kendall and incorporates the site of the old Drostdy. Founded on 31 March 1904, Rhodes is unique among South African universities in that it has no natural hinterland from which to draw its students. The majority come from far afield.
