Doctor Khumalo and Oscar Chalupsky, 1999 Dusi Canoe Marathon
Légende
Several times surf ski world champion, Oscar Chalupsky, paddles the Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon with South African soccer legend, Doctor Khumalo as valley residents crowd around to catch a glimpse of their soccer hero. Doctor Khumalo is one of a number of celebrities invited on the canoe marathon aimed at encouraging sound relations between largely white wealthy paddlers from South Africa's industrial centers and black poor rural valley residents. Now called the Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon, the marathon is the largest multiday canoe marathon in the world and runs between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. The race is 120 km of running and paddling down the Umsundusi and Umgeni rivers
