A week or two after my trip I was on the eastern rim of Lesotho at the foot of the Drakensberg in the Giant's Castle region standing in a field of cosmos. The flowers were in full bloom, lagging several weeks behind their kind in the Free State. A herd boy led his cattle across the Bushmans River
