Barthlemy Thimonnier (1793-1857) French inventor. Patented first sewing machine to be put into practical use, Paris, 1830. Made 80 to produce army uniforms, but destroyed by tailors fearing for the jobs. From "Le Petit Journal", Paris, 1 September 1907.
