Humphry Davy (1778-1829) British chemist, 1800.[19th century]. Inventor of safety lamp for miners. Using electrolysis he discovered a number of elements. Worked on Nitrous oxide (Laughing gas). Professor chemistry, Royal Institution, London, 1802. Born in Penzance, Cornwall, England. Engraving after portrait by James Lonsdale (1777-1839).
