Légende
Series of observations of the planet Saturn, 1656. These observations made by Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687), latinized name of the German astronomer Jan Hewel or Hewelcke, display different appearances of Saturn from those showing what we now know to be Saturn's rings, through what Galileo called Saturn's triple nature, to a simple disc. From "Dissertatio, de Nativa Saturni Facie, ..." by Johannes Hevelius. (Gdansk, 1656). Engraving.
