'The Obelisk'. Erasmus Wilson, English surgeon and antiquary. (1880). Wilson (1809-1884). In medicine he specialised in skin diseases. His other interest was Egyptology of which he was a generous patron. In 1878 he paid for the transport of Cleopatra's Needle from Egypt to London at a cost of £10,000. Cartoon by 'Spy', pseudonym of Leslie Ward (1851-1922) [500015150], British painter and caricaturist, from "Vanity Fair". (London, 18 December 1880). Chromolithograph.
