Comet of December 1680 (Kirch). From a pamphlet by Simon Bornmeister published Nuremberg 1681. Newton calculated that it was travelling at 880,000 mph and that it went so near the Sun that at one time it was only 1/6 of the Sun's diameter from its surface. Copperplate engraving.
