Alexander Sergeievich Menshikov (1789-1869) Russian soldier. Commanded the Russian troops at the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and defended Sebastopol (Sevastopol) during the Crimean (Russo-Turkish) War 1853-1856. Recalled in 1855 on the death of Nicholas I. From "The Illustrated London News" (London, 1855). Engraving.
