Henry Evelyn Wood (1838-1919) English soldier, born at Braintree, Essex. Joined the army in 1844 and rose to the rank of Field Marshall. Award the Victoria Cross for gallantry during the Indian Mutiny for actions on 19 October 1858. From "Men of Mark" by Thompson Cooper (London, c1880).
