McClure's Arctic expedition in HMS 'Investigator' 1850-1854 when he was credited with the discovery of the North West Passage. McClure, whose party was in great distress, unexpectedly meetng up with Lieutenant Pim of HMS 'Resolute'. Relief was at hand. Robert John le Mesurier McClure (1807-1873) Irish-born British explorer.
