Ferdinand Foch (1851-1929) French soldier who entered the army in 1871. Director of the Ecole de Guerre (School of War) 1907-1911. In the First World War he was appointed French Chief of General Staff in 1918. In March 1918 he was appointed Supreme Allied Commander.
