The Peat Cart
Légende
The Peat Cart: Cutting peat, also called turf, on the Yorkshire Moors. Stacks of peat which have been cut earlier can be seen on the hillside. A primitive cart with wheels made of three pieces of wood is being filled. On the left specialised peat shovels are propped against a pile of peat, near a small hack barrow similar to those used in brick works. From "The Costume of Yorkshire" by George Walker (Leeds, 1814.) Hand coloured aquatint.
