Suspension bridge over the Menai Straits
Légende
Suspension bridge over the Menai Straits, Wales, built by Thomas Telford (1757-1834), Scottish civil engineer, between 1820 and 1826. The original timber deck was wrecked in a storm in 1839 and had to be replaced by a heavier one. In 1940 the chains were renewed with high-tensiile steel. This bridge formed part of the London/Holyhead road which carried mails between Dublin and London. Engraving c1840.
